Smart business cards for small businesses and sole traders

When you are the whole business, your card does a lot of work. Here is how to set up a smart card that takes bookings, collects leads and costs little to run.

For a sole trader or a small firm, a business card is often the first and last thing a customer sees: at a market stall, after a quote, on a job. A smart card does the same job, then keeps going. One tap opens a profile with your services, reviews and a way to book or pay, and saves your number to the customer’s phone.

Start free

Your Nexus profile is free for good: one live profile with your photo, links, colours and QR code, Save contact and contact exchange, and every contact you collect. You can share it by link and QR code before you order a card. New accounts get 7 days of Pro to try everything, and activating a card gives 14 days.

What to put on your profile

  1. 1

Say what you do in one line

“Electrician in Leeds, domestic and small commercial” beats a long paragraph.

  2. 2

    Show proof

Link to reviews, a portfolio or photos of recent jobs.

  3. 3

    Make the next step obvious

A call button, WhatsApp, or a booking link for quotes and appointments.

  4. 4

    Ask for details back

Contact exchange lets customers send their details so you can follow up with a quote.

Bookings and payments

From Starter, you can add a booking button connected to Cal.com or Calendly and a payment button for deposits, so a customer can book a consultation and pay from your profile. Starter is about £2.50 a month billed yearly, or about £4 monthly; plans are billed in US dollars.
